Home Improvement – DIY Power Tools
If you are looking to save money on home improvements, doing it yourself is probably the cheapest route. Regardless of the project, performing it without hiring someone else not only saves money, but it gives you a sense of accomplishment. Experience levels aside, power tools are a necessity for almost any home improvement project. If you have never completed work around the house before, there are some essential power tools that DIY newbies should know about.
Don’t even bother starting a project unless you have a power drill in your possession. Almost every structure in your home has fasteners of some sort, and the drill takes immeasurable tedium and time out of the boring new holes, adding fasteners, and removing old ones. It doesn’t matter if you are doing simpler jobs such as hanging blinds and shelves or are tackling flooring or roofing projects. Drills will come into play for all of these tasks. Sure, self-tapping screws help when only a screwdriver is available, but why add hours to a job that can be done much more quickly with a drill?
Another essential power tool for DIY newbies is a saw, such as a circular saw or table saw. If you are working with wood, it is inevitable that you will find that the piece you are using doesn’t fit exactly right. Even after the helpful employee at the home improvement store has cut the piece to your specs, you will get home and realize that you were off just a touch. Or, you may receive a discount on buying the wood in bulk and will need to cut it down yourself at a later date. Having a saw around is quite helpful if a shelf runs a touch too long or a new truss doesn’t butt up against the others tightly.
Sanders also help out many DIY workers when it comes to buffing out rough edges or for preparing a piece for painting. They either slightly roughen an area so that it holds paint well or can be used to remove old paint so that a new coat may be applied. Sanders also smooth the rough parts that saws can leave behind. Sanders can even perform the job of a saw on smaller parts if in a pinch.
There are many more power tools that are manufactured, but drills, saws, and sanders will help you complete the vast majority of home improvement projects. Many varieties are offered at home improvement and department stores everywhere. Run down to the store, pick up some essential power tools, and get started on your DIY project right now.
