Perennial Garden Tips And Secrets

Gardening with perennials is a very popular way to garden. The reason for this is with perennials, every year the flowers and plants grow back after the winter and bloom again. Sometimes adding a few annuals can spice up your garden with splashes of color, but in most cases it is best to use mostly perennials to save on time and money.

Years of great enjoyment can come from a well designed and implemented perennial garden full of variety. The entire household can become involved in selecting and planting the bulbs and grasses. With a little bit of time, love, and care, beautiful blooms year after year will be there for you to view. Flower arrangements and dried flower bouquets can be made from the flowers for even more enjoyment. Improved curb appeal is an extra added bonus which can also help home resale value.

Many different kinds of perennials can be bought and planted with my favorites being, allium bulbs and bearded iris bulbs. They both need an area with well drained soil and plentiful sun, and are fairly easy to grow. The thing that makes theses bulbs so great is their color, number of blooms and size. Most bulbs will multiply over time by themselves. After a few years you may need to remove or transplant a portion of them to new areas if they are taking over the space.

Perennials do well in most climate regions. No matter where you live, there are bound to be plenty of perennials for you to choose from for the garden. When choosing what to grow, I usually plant the taller perennials in the back with shorter ones near the front of the bed of flowers.

It is common practice to grow plants with different colors and leaves in a flower bed. This can create a more well rounded look for the garden. One other thing to consider is what time of year all the bulbs in your garden will bloom. It is nice to have a variety of bloom times throughout the year so you always have something blooming.

Allium bulbs and bearded iris bulbs both have good bloom times, which is part of why they are so popular. It is always a good idea to plan the garden before starting any of your planting. This will help in the long run and make everything much easier. It can be hard on plants to keep moving them all the time, but once in a while is okay. Again, most bulbs like good soil and lots of sun. Have fun planting.
