Why Purchase Dog Swimming Pools

The concept of a pool for a dog may seem strange at first but in fact most dogs love to swim. Just like it is great exercise for you swimming is a wonderful exercise for your dog. Almost all dogs love to splash and play in the water and it cools them in the summertime much like a human pool cools us off. Dog swimming pools are a great way to give your dog a special treat.

Some people will buy a pool meant for a child for their dog. Unfortunately like buying a dog a human Frisbee it can be very dangerous. Child pools and human Frisbees are usually made of hard plastic and can tear easily under your dogs teeth or nails. The least that can happen is the pool is destroyed.

If your dog happens to swallow a piece of the plastic and that can be extremely dangerous. Plastic can not be digested and can cause a blockage in your dogs stomach. Blockages kill thousands of dogs every year. Anything made for human children is not durable enough for dogs particularly the larger breeds.

Adult human swimming pools are not good places for dogs either. Hair in the filter is not the only problem you have to worry about. The chemicals in a pool are harsh on a dogs skin. The chlorine in a pool is a poison. If a dog drinks the water routinely then there is the possibility that it will seriously harm him or her. There have also been cases of small dogs drowning in swimming pools because they can not easily get out.

Some people think that a lake or pond is a good place for a dog to swim and play. The water in these places can contain bacteria and viruses that have an adverse affect on a dogs skin. A lot of the skin conditions that are common come from these bacteria. This is one reason why these places do not make good swimming areas for our canine friends.

Another reason you do not want your dog to regularly swim in a pond is stagnant water. A lot of ponds in residential areas contain mosquito larvae. When these larvae grow into adulthood the mosquitoes can carry heartworms. Heartworms are deadly to dogs if left untreated. The treatment for them is both expensive and harsh.

If you purchase and maintain a small pool just for your dog you can avoid all of these things. Pools meant for dogs are made to stand up to even the toughest dog and simple maintenance can keep it from getting stagnant. They come in all shapes and sizes and dog swimming pools are meant for dogs.
